My first attempt to combine symbolism with expressionistic thoughts. I was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's style of illustrating the meaning of proverbs, with the only difference that this is a highly abstract work. However, I have used metaphors and visual as well as verbal synonymes for parts of these proverbial expressions.
Thanks you. I think, textures are a good way to emphasize certain areas or "visual levels" of a graphical work. Unfortunately, this is a work which nobody seems to understand and that only very few like. That does, however, not change my view on it, because I accomplished everything I wanted without sacrificing the aesthetical value the artwork has for me. I presume you don't like its general composition, am I right?
No, it's more the style than the composition. I love the top part. The "white" and red "stripes" work well, and I quite like the tree with the hand. The smudge in the middle with the maggot is also fine. What I don't like is the fact that you used the same photo of a bug twice, and that the butterflies are part of the background. The bottom bar also forms a style-break.
That's undeniably true. Implementing the different pieces was a bit problematic. However, in regard to what this work is supposed to say I couldn't use a different cockroach, it had to visible that both bugs were the same. I could have rotated the second bug a bit, but it didn't look quite right to me. The butterflies are actually moths, which is important for the meaning of the artwork. But since nobody gets it, I'll just enjoy to be the only one who knows the meaning of the artwork instead, haha.
